The Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS) at the University of Oregon offers students and faculty a close-knit community in which to learn, discover, and innovate, in a shared quest for computational solutions to a spectrum of challenging problems. Our programs combine a strong computer science core curriculum with an array of cutting-edge topics. Students at all levels are prepared to step forth to make meaningful and high quality contributions in the field of computing.

CIS faculty are international leaders in their fields, including informatics, networking, security, software engineering, assistive technologies, theory, scientific visualization, and high performance computing. Recent interdisciplinary research initiatives with biologists, physicists, neuroscientists, and networking engineers have resulted in prominent research grants from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and the National Institutes of Health.

Our educational programs combine a strong computer science core curriculum with an array of cutting-edge topics. Students at all levels are prepared to step forth to make meaningful and high quality contributions in the field of computing.

UO is located in Eugene, Oregon, "A Great City for the Arts and Outdoors." We are located about an hour's drive from the dramatic Pacific coast and from the 10K ft. peaks that make up the Cascade mountain range.
